Nutrition for weight loss has become an enigma in this day and age. After all, we keep on buying diet book after diet book only to notice that we are getting fatter. To further complicate matters, many times, the research isn’t even clear.

1. Go overboard with vegetables: I’ve never heard of someone getting sick from eating too many vegetables, but I have heard of people breaking through weight loss plateaus while simultaneously increasing energy after going hog wild with vegetables.
2. Don’t use supplemental fiber: Research has shown that this type of fiber can actually do more harm than good. So make sure you get fiber from whole food sources such as beans, vegetables, etc. Not only will you get more antioxidants, but you will also feel better.
3. Eat protein bars in moderation: Always keep in mind that a lot of marketing is just hype. And whole food will always be superior to supplements for fat loss. So don’t rely on “healthy” energy bars to reach your goals. Stick to whole foods as much as possible and only have bars in emergencies.
4. Readjust caffeine sensitivity: Most people in the modern western world are overdosing on caffeine. And too much caffeine can cause more harm than good in terms of long term fat loss. So I recommend tapering down your caffeine intake as much as possible to readjust receptors and then slowly increasing it.
5. Increase legume intake: This is the single most powerful thing you can do to speed up fat loss. You see, legumes are the slowest digesting source of carbs you can eat, period. So start implementing them as soon as possible in small amounts.
Nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. Just make sure you stay away from all the fads and focus on the research-backed approaches. And remember that the most important ingredient here is to take action!

4. Having too much coffee: Or any other source of caffeine in excess. You see, too much caffeine will disrupt sleeping patterns, prematurely age you and drain your adrenals. So please tapper down your caffeine intake to readjust your receptors and then slowly reintroduce it for maximum effect.
5. Having too many calories per meal: Even if the meal is super healthy, having too many calories will cause blood sugar levels to spike and subsequently, energy levels to plummet. So make sure that all your meals, the healthy and unhealthy, are controlled for portion size.
Low levels of energy are not necessary. In this day and age, you have more than enough tools at your disposal to reach the body of your dreams. Just don’t forget that taking action is the most important part of the equation.

The big problem with fasting, however, is that it can cause some very serious issues especially if you do it for a prolonged period of time. Don’t believe me just yet? Here are 6 reasons why you shouldn’t be fasting:
1. An emptied liver. What gets emptied from your liver? Carbohydrates that are stored in the form of glycogen. This liver glycogen is responsible for maintaining normal blood sugar in between meals. Without it, your blood sugar will be at a perpetual low.
2. Lean tissue cannibalism. Your body doesn’t want to die. So in an attempt to survive it will break down your muscle and convert it to blood sugar. Why does it need blood sugar? Because without it, your brain would shut down.
3. Vital tissues get burned as fuel. Lean tissue isn’t the only thing your body will go after to survive. Proteins in your blood, digestive linings, heart mass and lung mass ALL get burned as fuel. And burning up such vital tissues is probably not the healthiest thing to do.
4. Substitute blood sugar. Eventually, your body will need to find a source of blood sugar so that it doesn’t shut down. What does it do? It takes fragments of fat and converts them into ketones. Ketones serve as substitute blood sugar. You can survive on them, but not very efficiently.
5. No benefits. If you’re fasting because you think it’s healthy, think again. There hasn’t been any peer reviewed research that clearly demonstrates a benefit from fasting. Most likely, fasting will have a negative effect on your health.
6. Metabolic acidosis. Acidosis is not fun. An immediate drawback will be the inability to exercise with intensity. In fact, exercise will become astronomically painful. You’ll also lose an abundance of minerals through urine.
Unfortunately, most fasts are also accompanied by a weight gain rebound. This happens because as you fast your metabolism slows down significantly. Then once you stop fasting, you eat an excess to compensate, but you have a slower metabolism!

2. If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not working. Many fitness gurus claim that arm fat loss has be painful. Yet I disagree completely here. I believe that if nutrition and exercise are implemented the right way, you can actually increase energy levels while restricting calories. The key here is to have lots of nutrients and lots of resistance training.
3. You have to eat clean forever, or else. Your body will NOT be the same once you lose all the arm fat. You’ll have a heightened ability to absorb and process nutrients. A lot of this will come from an increase in insulin sensitivity and an increase in basal metabolic rate.
4. Hunger pangs are a given. This statement only holds true if you go overboard with caloric restriction. Otherwise, there are many ways to virtually eliminate hunger pangs and cravings. One approach is to use herbal teas. Yerba mate is the most powerful one and can completely knock out cravings, no joke! Sugar substitutes are yet another tool for cancelling out that sweet tooth craving.
There is an excess of information out there on how to lose arm fat. And if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is! So use some common sense when analyzing information and try to stay away from outdated advice!
